7 500-Pound Lifeguard Stands Stolen from Rehoboth Beach

Police in Rehoboth Beach in Delaware are looking for seven stolen lifeguard stands.

Rehoboth Beach Police are looking for seven lifeguard stands that were stolen from the beach.

Rehoboth Beach Police Chief Keith Banks tells The Daily Times of Salisbury that beach sweepers noticed the stands were missing early Thursday. Banks says the stands were likely stolen between 2:30 and 5 a.m.

A Delaware State Police helicopter cruised the coastline but did not see any stands in the water.

Rehoboth Beach Patrol Capt. Kent Buckson says the stands weigh 500 pounds each, and believes they were put out to sea.

The seven missing stands are a third of the patrol's 20 stands. Luckily, Buckson says, Rehoboth Beach has backups, and the beach will be fully staffed on the weekend.
