Burlington County Forest Fire 100% Contained: NJ Forest Fire Service

Firefighters say they have contained a New Jersey forest fire near Chatsworth Road in the Pinelands.

Firefighters in Burlington County say they have completely contained a massive forest fire that threatened nearby homes in the Pinelands of New Jersey.

Approximately 1,000 acres burned on Monday, according to a news release by the New Jersey Forest Fire Service. At least 25 homes could be threatened by the flames

The fire burned by Chatsworth Road in Tabernacle and Woodland Townships in the Pinelands. It is now 100 percent contained, according to officials.

No evacuations were reported.

Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Bob Martin toured the area Monday morning.

"With current dry conditions and low humidity creating a high danger for wildfires, it is important to remind all New Jersey residents and visitors to exercise extreme caution to prevent wildfires at the particularly vulnerable time," said Commissioner Martin.

This is the second fire in the Pinelands since last week, when 400 acres burned in Winslow Wildlife Management area in Winslow Township, Camden County.

New Jersey's Fire Warden says it's believed that fire was deliberately set by an arsonist. It remains under investigation.
