Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who hit a 10-year-old boy in Philadelphia’s Frankford neighborhood. The boy was playing football in the street with friends. Police are looking for a van that fled the scene at Jackson and Granite Streets. NBC10’s Claudia Rivero talked to neighbors who describe what they saw and heard.
A young boy is in the hospital after police say he was struck in a hit-and-run accident.
Hafece Jones, 10, was on Jackson Street near Granite Street in the Frankford section of the city when he was struck by a white minivan which fled the scene, according to investigators.
"It was crazy, I started crying!" said Mitzy Roman, who witnessed the accident right outside her house. "I thought the boy was dead. It was a big hit."
Roman tells NBC10 Jones and his friends were playing football on the street when the accident happened.
Family members tell NBC10 the boy, who was visiting his grandmother, suffered abdominal injuries and is listed in stable condition at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children.
"When we saw him he was unconscious," said Chakea Johnson, Hafece's aunt. "But now he's talking and everything but his ribs are sore."
Police continue to search for the hit-and-run vehicle.
