RAW Sushi and Sake Lounge

The great thing about sushi, in general, is that it’s possible to eat a raw quail egg and think, ‘Yeah, that was pretty good. I think I’ll have another.’

That’s right, try the raw quail egg. At first you want to gag, but then, mm-MMM… Seriously. RAW Sushi and Sake Lounge near 12th and Sansom is, as far as I can tell, the place for Sushi in Philly. Raw quail eggs and all.

An extensive sake menu (Hakushika Chokara? Okunomatsu Ginjo?) compliments a wide selection of sushi and sashimi, from simple items like tuna and salmon rolls to the more ornate spider roll to oddities like the uni and tobiko. RAW has every kind of sushi you can dream up. And some you can’t.

Aesthetically, the place is awesome. Especially the bathrooms—best I’ve seen in the city, hands down. Guys get to urinate against a mural waterfall. For real. And the sinks are so po-mo that you can’t tell where the water will go when you turn the faucet on. (Don’t worry, it won’t spill over the edge, honest.)

Sure it’s a bit pricey, but hey, it ain’t cheap to steal those quail eggs right out of the nest.
