7/06: Drink It, Spell It, Say It

I LIKE: Before you go see Bruno, see the movie that made Sasha Baron Cohen: “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan” at The Trocadero. This hilarious mockumentary spurred boycotts and lawsuits so you know it’s good. Three dollars gets you in and also goes toward a drink or snack of your choice. Get there before 7 p.m. and get a free beer and bag of popcorn too. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8:00 p.m.

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN SPELL?: Get your spell on by heading to Bob and Barbara’s and enter “The Drunken Spelling Bee.” The Bee is broken down into three different rounds with drinking and dancing before, in the middle of, and after. The bee costs $2 to enter, but you get a free beer so it’s worth it. The spelling starts at 10:30 p.m. but get there early to make sure it doesn’t fill up. For details, call 215.545.4511.

CHEAP LAUGHS: Laugh your way home after spending the night at the Shubin Theater for “Comic vs. Audience Comedy Show.” For just $5, you get a chance to see four comics, Carolyn Busa, Chris Cotton, Stu Kamens and Luke Cunningham. And the best part is that the show is BYOB. For tickets, head to the Philly Improv Theater Web site.
