NJ Stormy Weather

Utility crews are working to restore electricity to hundreds of New Jerseyans Friday.

Powerful storms rumbled through the Garden State Thursday, downing trees and power lines and causing rail delays.

NJ Transit says its trains are now operating on or close to schedule.

The state's largest utility, Public Service Electric & Gas, says about 5,500 customers are without service. Many are in Perth Amboy,
where Mayor Wilda Diaz declared a state of emergency.

Atlantic City Electric says nearly 3,000 customers don't have electricity.

The storms, packing wind gusts up to 60 mph, brought heavy rain and lightning to parts of the state.

There National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for central New Jersey. But forecasters say it does not appear any tornados had actually occurred.
