NBC10 @Issue: Gov. Ed Rendell on Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell continues to press state lawmakers to get moving on funding to maintain the state’s crumbling roads and bridges. The Governor has called for a special session of the legislature to focus on the problems. This week, Governor Rendell joined U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood in a National Infrastructure Forum. The session brought together experts from government, technology and the financial sector to examine the urgent needs and possible solutions. The issues range from safety to job creation and stimulating the economy. Governor Rendell is nearing the end of his second and final term in Harrisburg. The state’s fluctuating financial picture is requiring more tweaking of the state budget. Hiring freezes, layoffs and furloughs have helped reduce the burden. But, more state workers layoffs could be coming and more adjustments may be necessary to make up for the approval of a lower amount in federal funds than state officials expected.
