Currently shopping for home appliances? If you purchase an ENERGY STAR energy-efficient product or renewable energy system, you may be in luck. The federal government is offering tax credits on many of these energy efficient products. In addition, Pennsylvania and surrounding states have started rebate programs to help consumers rid themselves of old, inefficient appliances, and replace them with qualified ENERGY STAR appliances.
Tax Credit for 30% of cost up to $1,500. Expires December 31, 2010 and only eligible on existing homes and principal residences:
· Biomass stoves
· Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC)
· Insulation
· Roofs (Metal & Asphalt)
· Water Heaters (non-solar)
· Windows & Doors
Tax Credit for 30% of cost with no upper limit. Expires December 31, 2016 and eligible on existing homes, new construction, principle and secondary residences, but not rentals:
· Geothermal Heat Pumps
· Small Wind Turbines (Residential)
· Solar Energy Systems
Tax Credit for 30% of the cost, up to $500 per .5kW of power capacity. Expires December 31, 2016 and eligible on principal residences, whether existing or new construction. Rental and second homes do not apply:
· Fuel Cells (Residential Fuel Cell and Microturbine System)
