Severe Storms Move Through

A strong and fast-moving line of strong storms swept through the area this morning.

The storms left downed trees and other debris as well as power outages and airport delays.

NBC10 First Alert Weather meteorologist said the line of severe storms was only about 3 to 5 miles wide.

The National Weather Service says the storms produced winds gusting up to 43 mph in the Poconos and 40 mph in the city as they moved quickly from Philadelphia and into South Jersey around 9:45 a.m. The storms were brief in duration -- taking only 20 or 30 minutes to move through most areas -- but they caused widespread, though sporadic, power outages.

Leaves also caused some issues with clogged gutters on area streets.

By noon most of the severe weather had pushed off shore.
