The National Weather Service is investigating several reports of a cold air funnel cloud spotted in New Jersey and Delaware Tuesday evening.
Viewers sent NBC10 photos and a video of the funnel cloud in Pennsville and Cherry Hill in New Jersey as well as Wilmington in Delaware.
“There have been several reports of cold air funnel clouds along
the Delaware and New Jersey coasts this afternoon and evening,” the National Weather Service wrote in a statement. “If any further funnel clouds develop, they are not expected to reach the ground or do damage.”
Cold air funnel clouds form on the leading edge of a storm or rain system and typically don't touch down or cause any damage, according to NBC10 First Alert Weather chief meteorologist Tammie Souza.
The cold air funnel cloud was spotted a day after severe storms caused flooding and knocked out power for tens of thousands of customers across the region.
