Rain and severe thunderstorms are rolling in to parts of our area, prompting officials to issue flood warnings across the Delaware Valley Friday.

An initial Flash Flood Warning was issued by the National Weather Service for Chester and parts of Berks, Bucks, Lehigh and Montgomery counties in the afternoon and lasted until 5:45 p.m. Friday.

The NWS later issued a Flood Warning, which means flooding is imminent or has already been reported, for those same areas. That warning ends at 9:45 p.m.

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for the same Pennsylvania counties, as well as Philadelphia and Delaware County, Pa., New Castle County, Del., and Camden, Gloucester, Mercer and Salem counties in New Jersey. The watch will end at 2 a.m. Saturday.

The NWS warns drivers to avoid traveling on streets where water has covered the roadway.

A line of heavy showers and thunderstorms are steadily heading east across the state and have already dropped several inches of rain in certain places.

Other storms hitting western Pennsylvania will be moving towards the Delaware Valley, but NBC10 First Alert Chief Meteorologist Glenn "Hurricane" Schwartz says they will weaken before reaching our region around 9 p.m.

Following that line of precipitation, more pleasant weather will move in for Father's Day weekend.

Expect lower humidity and a sunny, breezy Saturday with highs in the low 80s both in the Philadelphia region and at the Jersey shore.

The mostly sunny weather will continue Sunday with highs again in the low 80s.
