The ice storm may be over but residents across the region are feeling the disastrous effects.
The ice brought down trees, caused transformers to explode and brought power lines to the ground in several areas. The cleanup and repairs are far from over.

“The people are home without heat and that’s the big problem,” said Lt. Joe Knox of the New Hope Eagle Fire Company.
In Bucks County, a buildup of ice on top of snow-covered tree limbs created most of the power problems.
A tree fell onto power lines on Taylorsville Road in Upper Makefield Township, knocking out power in several neighborhoods.
A few miles away, a stretch of River Road in Aquetong is shut down while crews make repairs to an arcing power line in New Hope.
“The wind is blowing the wires down and they’re getting iced up,” said Lt. Joe Knox.

It’s just the latest headache for locals caused by a brutal winter. During the months of Dececmber and January the area has had 37.9 total inches of snowfall compared to 27.2 inches last year.

Another system is moving into the area and should hit on Saturday though it should be mild compared to what the area has experienced so far. The Philadelphia area should get a brief period of snow and freezing rain early Saturday before it turns to rain.
