Thunderstorms Roar Through Philadelphia Region as Excessive Heat Makes It Feel Like Triple Digits

Delegates to the Democratic National Convention got an early wake-up call as thunderstorms rumbled through Philadelphia and the suburbs Monday morning.

The storms packed heavy rain, lightning and gusty winds and briefly eased the heat and humidity that are baking the region.

An excessive heat warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. Monday for Philadelphia, Delaware, eastern Chester, eastern Montgomery and lower Bucks counties in Pennsylvania; Mercer, Gloucester, Camden and northwest Burlington counties in New Jersey; and New Castle County in Delaware. Forecasters say the heat and humidity will combine to make it feel like it's up to 108 degrees.

A heat advisory is in effect for the rest of the region, with the heat index in triple digits.

The NBC10 First Alert Weather Team says there's also a chance for another round of thunderstorms in the afternoon.
