Digging Out: Day 2

Public and private schools in Philadelphia were closed Friday as the city and area spent a second day digging out after a winter storm slammed the area with more than a foot of snow Wednesday into the early hours of Thursday.

From South Philly to Center City to Roxborough to the Northeast many city streets remained icy – some smaller streets weren’t even plowed as of Friday morning.

If your street has yet to be plowed you should call the city's 3-1-1 hotline, Mayor Michael Nutter said.

Also check SEPTA’s website before you head out the door. As of Friday at 4:30 p.m. about 20 percent of all the city bus routes still weren’t operating or were operating on a limited basis.

More snow flurries fell Friday afternoon in parts of the area leading to more cleanup concerns.

As city workers continue to tend to snow removal trash removal is set to resume Friday. If your normal trash day is Thursday pick up would be Friday and Friday pickup would be done on Saturday.
