Like a Lion… 2 More Winter Storms Could Bring Snow and Ice This Weekend

Two winter storms could bring a variety of conditions to the Philadelphia region with some neighborhoods getting snow and ice while others get only rain.

What to Know

  • More snow is expected this weekend as two separate storms move through.
  • The weather could vary drastically from neighborhood to neighborhood with rain to the south and ice/snow to the north of the region.
  • The first system could change the impact of the second storm so keep checking back for updates.

March is roaring like a lion with another two wintry weather systems this weekend that are expected to bring more snow to some areas.

What you get could vary drastically between neighborhoods with snow and ice north of Philadelphia and only rain in Delaware and South Jersey.

Here is what we know at this point...

A First Alert for the Pennsylvania suburbs, Berks County and the Lehigh Valley is in effect throughout the weekend to make sure you are prepared for wintry weather.

Timing of the Storms:

Round 1: 8 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday

Round 2: Sunday afternoon to Monday morning

This means the best time to get errands done and do grocery shopping will be during the day Saturday and Sunday morning. A scattered shower is possible Saturday but it's not expected to be major. Otherwise, temps will be chilly but no precipitation is expected. So most of the weekend will be dry.

Snow/Ice/Rain:

The first system brought accumulating snow to the Lehigh Valley, Berks County and the Pennsylvania suburbs starting Friday night. One to 3 inches of snow fell across much of Berks, Bucks, Chester and Montgomery counties, and the Lehigh Valley.

The storm moving in Sunday is expected to be the more significant system and could make more of an impact. There is uncertainty, however, of where the snow/rain line could be as temps could fluctuate slightly.

For now, the separation line of snow, ice and rain is expected hover around the I-95 Corridor from Wilmington to Philadelphia to Trenton. It’s looking like the I-95 Corridor can expect around 1 to 3 inches of snow, while South Jersey and central Delaware might get less than an inch. The heaviest snow is expected in the Lehigh Valley and Berks County, where 3 to 6 or more inches are expected.

Again, the snow/rain line could move by Sunday afternoon, meaning the above numbers may change, so keep checking NBC10 both online and on TV for the latest.

Clearing to Start the Workweek

The wintry should clear out by Monday morning but school delays and closures are possible depending on what is left on the ground.

We then get a dry spell. Expect sunshine and temps in the low 30s Tuesday and Wednesday.

These two new storms come on the heels of Friday morning's snow that left inches of snow on many neighborhoods.
