A wrong-way driver jumped off the southbound Roosevelt Boulevard (U.S. Route 1) extension in the East Falls section of Philadelphia after crashing Thursday afternoon.
A stolen 2000 silver Chrysler 300 was heading northbound on the southbound section of highway near Ridge Avenue around 4 p.m. when it struck a black 2012 Toyota Camry, police said. The wreck blocked all lanes of traffic for hours.
The lanes reopened around 7 p.m.
As SkyForce10 hovered overhead a short time later, police and medics were seen responding not only to two crashed sedans on the highway but also the ramp below as the one car -- a black sedan -- appeared to be hanging precariously close to the edge of the roadway.
Police said the 29-year-old driver of the wrong-way car jumped off the roadway, severing his right foot and knocking his head as he hit the ground feet below. He was in custody while being treated in critical condition at Temple University Hospital, but later died.
Police confirmed to NBC10's Randy Gyllenhaal that the man who died was driving a stolen vehicle at the time of the crash.
A 52-year-old woman in the wrong-way car and two women in the Camry suffered non-life-threatening injuries, said investigators.

Crews diverted all traffic onto Ridge Avenue so expect massive delays on Ridge and also Kelly Drive.
Northbound traffic on Route 1 also slowed as police blocked one lane.
