In just one weekend, construction crews did it.
Workers have finished replacing a bridge on the Pennsylvania Turnpike's Northeastern Extension.
A section of the highway that was closed Friday night, forcing motorists to detour about 30 miles between the Lehigh Valley Interchange and the Pocono Interchange, reopened Monday morning.
The roadway reopened ahead of the 4 a.m. schedule as the southbound lanes opened at 1 a.m. and the northbound lanes opened at 2 a.m., according to the turnpike commission.
Workers replaced the 60-year-old bridge over Crackersport Road outside Allentown. The previous span on Interstate 476 opened in 1957 and carried about 30,000 vehicles daily.
The work, using Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC), was initially planned for Sept. 29, but was postponed because of a mechanical problem.
