PATCO resumed service on a special schedule Thursday afternoon after flash flooding washed away track beds, left stations muddy and forced the high-speed line into suspension at most of its South Jersey stations.
Storm damage and flooding knocked out service between eight stations from Lindenwold to Broadway in Camden, the the Port Authority Transit Corporation said early Thursday.
Photos posted to PATCO’s Twitter account show debris and flooding both in stations and on the tracks. The transit agency said the Woodcrest and Ferry Avenue stations were particularly hard hit.
"Track ballast (stone that holds track in place) in some areas washed away," PATCO said.
Service was knocked out around 3 a.m. PATCO resumed service at noon Thursday.
NJ Transit was honoring PATCO Freedom cards/tickets on their routes, including the Atlantic City Rail Line.

Flooding also halted NJ Transit's River Line between the Walter Rand Transpiration Center and the Waterfront Entertainment Complex in Camden for during the Thursday morning commute.
