New Jersey Turnpike Widening, by the Numbers

Here's a look by-the-numbers at the New Jersey Turnpike widening project:

  • $2.3 Billion: The cost of the project to widen the turnpike from six to 12 lanes between Interchange 6, in Burlington County, and Interchange 9, in New Brunswick.
  • $200 Million: Amount under budget that the project came in at, according to turnpike authority spokesman Thomas Feeney.
  • 170 Miles: Length of new lanes that will start to be opened to drivers on Saturday night. The northbound lanes are expected to open Saturday night, while the southbound lanes will open next weekend.
  • 145,200: Daily vehicular traffic at the northern end of the construction project.
