New Jersey Transportation Faces Depleted Budget and Unsafe Bridges

Two of New Jersey's transportation heavyweights are scheduled to speak on pressing issues facing the state.

Department of Transportation chief Jamie Fox and Assembly Transportation Committee chairman John Wisniewski are due to appear Tuesday morning in front of business leaders in Rutherford.

The officials are expected to discuss numerous issues, including the state's soon-to-be-depleted Transportation Trust Fund and the effect that will have on infrastructure needs.

In January, Fox ordered a review of every bridge in the state that's been deemed structurally deficient. That same week, a lane on the busy Route 3 bridge heading toward the Lincoln Tunnel was closed due to safety concerns.

Fox and Wisniewski also are expected to discuss the prospects for extending the number 7 subway line from New York City to Secaucus.
