Investigators say the driver was drunk when he ran a red light

An accused DUI driver ran a red light at a Delaware intersection overnight leaving five people hospitalized.

According to Delaware State Police, Michael Walker was driving his 1998 Buick Century southbound along Canterbury Road (State Route 15) in Milford when he ran a red light at Milford Harrington Highway (State Route 14) around 2:45 a.m. Saturday.

Walker’s Buick slammed into the passenger side of a 2008 Nissan Altima driven by Danny Hudson, according to investigators.

Hudson, 45, and his two passengers -- a 23-year-old Millsboro woman and a 43-year-old Millsboro woman -- suffered injuries and needed to be extracted from their vehicle.

Walker and his 34-year-old passenger also suffered non-life-threatening injuries that required treatment at Milford Memorial Hospital, according to investigators.

The investigation remains open but state police said that Walker ran the red light while under the influence of alcohol.

Troopers arrested Walker, 29, and charged him with vehicular assault, DUI, failure to stop and related counts.
