8 Big Rigs, 3 Cars Pileup on Pennsylvania's Interstate 81

A crash involving several cars and tractor-trailers caused a pileup that closed Interstate 81 in northeastern Pennsylvania.

Emergency crews tell WNEP-TV that eight tractor-trailers and three smaller passenger vehicles were involved in the Interstate 81 crash just before 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Officials say highway was shut down from the Clarks Summit exit to the East Benton exit after the pileup near Lackawanna State Park.

Some drivers were checked at hospitals for minor injuries.

Driver Tom Tosh from Endicott, New York, tells the TV station from what he saw, "it's a miracle" no one was killed.

Nearly a dozen tow trucks were on the scene to help clean up the mess.

Roads in the area were icy after the weekend snow turned to freezing rain.
