Traffic Crunch Continues on Delaware Memorial Bridge

Traffic backed up in the Garden State again Wednesday morning as crews continued to work on the Delaware Memorial Bridge.

Work on suspender ropes means a one-lane squeeze for Delaware-bound drivers on bridge that connects the First State with New Jersey.

Three lanes are closed to traffic on the southbound side while construction crews replace three suspender ropes. Once initial work is complete, a second lane will open up. The two left lanes, however, remain closed for the immediate future.

The @demembridge Twitter feed suggested using Exit 13 along Interstate 295 or Exit 2 of the New Jersey Turnpike to the Commodore Barry Bridge (U.S. Route 322) as an alternate route to avoid delays. [[376354511, C]]

Motorists that eventually made it past the construction scene were subject to a 35 mph speed limit.
