Be warned if you plan on hitting any of the Delaware Beaches or plan on hitting the Christiana Mall area this weekend should plan another route or be prepared to sit in some traffic on your way home.
Route 1 northbound will be closed from Route 273 to I-95 at points this weekend, according to the Department of Transportation.
The closures are planned for 10 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday, 10 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday and 10 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday, says DelDOT.
Detours will be posted directing drivers onto Route 273 west to I-95 north and back to Route 1 north, DelDOT says.
During the weekend daytime closures could also occur during daytime hours along the same stretch of road.
The project is being undertaken to demolish the old Route 1 bridge and install drainage piping on the new Christiana Mall Road Bridge, which opened last weekend.
