Neighbors Attempt Vigilante Justice After Kids Are Struck

Neighbors tried to turn into vigilantes after a driver accidentally struck two kids last night.

The driver stopped his Nissan Maxima after hitting the kids -- ages 8 and 13 -- along Ridge Avenue, near Parker Avenue, in Philadelphia’s Roxborough neighborhood around 11 p.m. Thursday.

That’s when Philadelphia police say some people ran out of a nearby house and began to kick the man’s sedan while attempting to drag the driver from his vehicle.

In the meantime, the children -- who had just gotten out of a car and were crossing the street when they were struck -- were rushed to Einstein Hospital in serious condition. The kids were later transferred to St. Christopher’s Hosptial for Children where they remained in critical but stable condition Friday morning.

As for the driver, he wasn’t hurt and police eventually got the scene secured.

The car has obvious windshield damage. Police didn’t say how fast the driver was going at the time of the crash.

As of Friday morning there was no word on possible charges for either the driver or the alleged vigilantes.
