Police in two separate towns investigated deadly crashes overnight -- one that left a pregnant woman dead.
A wreck between two Mercury Marquis sedans along Red Lion Road near the Roosevelt Boulevard in the Bustleton section of Northeast Philadelphia claimed a pregnant woman’s life
"I literally had just put my purse in the passenger seat and was ready to pull out and I looked up into the street and at that moment I saw the car in the right lane get clipped by the car in the left lane," said witness Lynn Polasik.
According to Philadelphia Police two drivers were driving fast, possibly even street racing -- each driver with a child in the car -- when a woman hit a median and lost control of her car as they crossed over Haldeman Avenue.
“We do know that they were both going east, they were both going in the same direction, and somewhere they collided and separated and one hit a tree and became engulfed,” said Philadelphia Police Capt. John Wilczynski.
The 2005 Marquis crashed into a tree on the right side of the roadway.
Witnesses rushed to a nearby Wendy's restaurant to grab fire extinguishers but it was too late to rescue Anna Marie Drummond who was trapped in the burning wreckage.
Bystanders were able to get the 22-year-old female driver and an 18-month-old boy riding in a backseat car seat out of the car. The woman suffered a broken leg while the boy suffered a cut lip, according to investigators.
The other car, a 1994 Marquis struck a tree before coming to a stop in the left hand lane of the road. The 24-year-old male driver wasn’t hurt but a 19-year-old woman in the passenger's seat and a 1-year-old boy in a car seat were hospitalized for observation after complaining of pain.

Investigators didn’t immediately issue any charges but they said they were looking into drag racing as a possible cause for the wreck.
The deadly night on area roadways wasn't over. Around 4:30 a.m. a motorcyclist collided with a truck along Easton Road (Route 611) between Bristol and Kelly Roads in Warrington, Pa. The biker died at the scene.
It wasn't clear what direction the vehicles were going at the time of the crash. The driver of the truck, either a dump or trash truck, didn't appear to suffer major injuries.
As police investigated the crash they warned motorists that they planned to have both directions of the roadway closed for hours as they worked to figure out what happened. It took more than four hours to clear the scene.
No official cause was given for either wreck.
