Lane Restrictions Lifted on Ben Franklin Bridge

The bridge only had two westbound lanes open to Pennsylvania instead of the normal four while there will be three lanes open eastbound to New Jersey.

Motorists dealt with delays on the Ben Franklin Bridge during the busy Monday morning rush hour.

The bridge had only have two westbound lanes open to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, instead of the normal four while there were three lanes open eastbound to New Jersey.

The lane restrictions are due to Sundayโ€™s rain, which hampered asphalt repair on the bridgeโ€™s westbound lanes. Motorists were advised to consider an alternate bridge or allow additional travel time Monday morning.

The Delaware River Port Authority, which oversees the bridge, said that paving was half finished by 7:30 a.m. and that they were set to finish the project by the early afternoon.

The bridge was repaved, striped and reopened by 12:45 p.m., the DRPA said.
