Do not bring alcohol on any New Jersey Transit trains this weekend.

The agency is banning any open containers of alcohol on trains and light rail cars from 5 p.m. Friday until midnight Sunday because of various special events in New Jersey and New York City.

Beverages of any kind will not be permitted on NJ Transit buses.

Major events in the region this weekend include the Belmont Stakes in Elmont, New York, on Saturday and the National Puerto Rican Day Parade in Manhattan on Sunday morning.

The Copa America Centenario will also hold its first match at MetLife Stadium on Saturday.

It's not clear if the alcohol ban on NJ Transit is tied to either of those events. The MTA has not announced similar bans on the Long Island Railroad or Metro-North.
