Rock ‘n’ roll isn’t just about the music.
It’s about the politics, the attitudes and the images of a generation.
The folks at WMGK, Philly’s classic rock radio station, totally get that. And that’s why they’ve returned with the ninth annual Classic Rock Art Show, which kicks off March 6 at the Shops at Liberty Place.
A veritable history of rock ‘n’ roll, the show includes photographs of music legends, as well as original paintings and drawings made by the artists themselves. The art is organized into sections named after the WMGK DJs who chose the pieces. On-air staff John DeBella, Debbi Calton, Andre Gardner and Ray Koob all participated in the selection.
In addition to the works for sale, there will also be a silent auction for plenty of classic rock goodies. A portion of the proceeds will go to Little Steven Van Zandt’s Rock N Roll Forever Foundation. Van Zandt is the honorary chair of this year’s show.
The art works range in value from $5 to $10,000—so there are options for every price point. Even if you choose just to browse the creations of Ringo Starr, Jerry Garcia and Bob Dylan, you can do so while listening to live performances from Paul Green School of Rock students daily at 11:30 a.m.
The show runs through March 29.
