New Rittenhouse Nibbles

Gastropub Slate finally opens today

After a slight bobble, Slate finally opens today in the former Cafe Habana locale. The gastropub was originally scheduled to start serving on Saturday but personal issues forced owner Laurentiu Muras to push the opening back a few days.

Heading up the Slate kitchen is Eric Paraskevas, former chef de cuisine at Lolita. While he is known for his Mexican cuisine, chances are he will lean more towards straightforward appetizers, sandwiches and entrees here. Think less tequila- and more beer-friendly food.

Owner Muras intends for Slate to attract a neighborhood crowd and has priced his menu accordingly. Appetizers range from $7-9 and entrees top out at $20. For now, Slate will only be serving dinner, opening daily at 5:00.
