Mama's Pizzeria

I was trying to decide where to go for lunch when a co-worker suggested Mama’s Pizzeria in Bala Cynwyd. I had never been there, but have always heard good things. They were wrong. Very wrong.

Now, I understand that many people may disagree and that Mama’s has been a staple in that neighborhood for a very long time, but from the get-go, I was disappointed. You order at the counter. Fine. But the menu is limited and there are no french fries. NO FRENCH FRIES?!!! Who the hell eats a cheesesteak without fries?! Steak and fries go together like peanut butter and jelly. Moving on.

The waitress brought our steaks, mine with cheese, mayo, and ketchup. Not impressed. The roll was not Amoroso, which, to me is a must have for a proper Philly cheesesteak. I don’t know how else to explain the taste, except that it was funny. My sandwich just didn’t taste right. I asked my friend about hers and she said the same of her plain steak which was surprising because I had assumed that mine tasted funny because of the cheese. Oh, and did I mention that my sandwich cost $9.35?

Our total for lunch (2 sandwiches and 2 pepsi’s) was $21.05 and they don’t take credit cards.
