City of Hops and Barley

Philly named the Best Beer Town in America

Crack open a cold one, Philly.  You’ve been crowned the nation’s Best Beer Town.

In February’s issue of Maxim Magazine, the title of Best Beer Town has been stripped from Portland, Oregon, and surrendered to the City of Brotherly Love.

(Sips beer) Ahh, delicious.

Maxim praises Philly for it’s local microbrews such as Victory Brewing's Helios Ale, Dogfish Head's  Indian Brown, Sly Fox's Phoenix Pale Ale, and Intercourse's Blue Ball.  Although they aren’t technically brewed within the city limits, they are heavily consumed there.

The story goes on to give a shout-out to Philly Beer Week, as well -- which runs from June 4 -13 and whose proceeds to paint a glorious picture of our nation’s forefathers.

“The Constitution was hatched while dudes in wigs knocked back beer in Philadelphia taverns. Ben Franklin says so: 'Beer is living proof that God loves us and wants to see us happy.’"

Somewhere, Mr. Franklin is sitting on a bar stool smiling.

Drink up, Philly. You deserve it!
