If you’re looking to dine in a quaint euro-style beer hall, the Austrian Village is just the spot.
With alpine murals, dark wood accents and a well-worn bar, there’s no pretense in the air at AV (as the locals call it). The dining rooms are simple yet inviting with wood tables and chairs accented in country floral tablecloths.
The restaurant serves up classic tavern foods: Assorted deep-fried appetizers, soups and sandwiches. There’s also a full complement of German-inspired offerings, including Bratwurst, Knockwurst, Wiener Schnitzel, Stuffed Schnitzel, Sauerkraut and Spaetzle. If you’re a fan of German Potato Salad, the restaurant boasts a secret recipe for their signature salad. If you’re not the schnitzel type, there’s also seafood entr�es and comfort food standards like meatloaf and pork chops.
Imported beers include Warsteiner, Paulaner, Hacker-Pschorr, Hofbrau Original and G�sser. And you can complement your German beer on Fridays and Saturdays with some live music and dancing. And who doesn’t love to dance to an accordion polka every now and then?
The AV serves lunch specials that include soup, breads, an entr�e and two sides for a little under $7. The Vienna Potato Soup is rich and flavorful, full of large chunks of potatoes, bacon and pickles. The Black Bean soup is likewise hearty and flavorful, but curiously also includes pork.
The rolls could be fresher, but the fish cakes entr�e is well-seasoned and just the right portion for lunch. Served with creamy mashed potatoes and applesauce, it makes for a very satisfying meal.
(And if you’re inspired enough by your visit that you ever want to hit the slopes for some skiing, the Tiroler Ski Club holds their monthly meetings at the AV.)
