That Girl: Marissa Evans

This week's That Girl Profile is Marissa Evans.

This week's profile is Marissa Evans of Philadelphia. Philly fashion guru Catriona Whitehead tells us why Marissa is this week's "That Girl."

What I like about this look.

An all-black ensemble can do wonderful things for the wearer; there is something alluring and powerful about going noir. However, wearing all black doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t pay attention to detail. For example, this lovely young woman is wearing a loosely fitted top that she then tucks into a body hugging mini skirt. The flowy quality of the blouse adds femininity to the outfit, while the tight mini skirt shows off her fabulous shape and redefines where her waist is. Notice that the mini has an exposed zipper down the front—another detail that helps make the all black ensemble more interesting. Her shear black tights cover her legs, transitioning this outfit into the fall/winter season, and helping to temper the sex appeal of the skirt. Lastly, she has kicked up the look with some beautiful tan suede booties. Don’t be afraid to add a color to your all-black look.

Where could this outfit be worn?

I met this young woman at an art show, in a lounge, while she was taking photographs. Her outfit was perfect for working a nightlife event—she was able to move around and take photos while fitting into the nightclub atmosphere. This outfit is meant for socializing at night: clubbing, dinner, lounges, and house parties.

Where can you buy this particular look?

A mini skirt such as this is best found at Arden B, Bebe, Guess, and H & M.   Her top can be found in any major department store, Charlotte Russe, JCrew, Shopstyle.com, United Colors of Benetton.  Her wedges are super easy to find right now. Visit Aldo, GoJane.com, JCrew, ShoeWoo, Steve Madden, etc.

Style tip?

My one styling tip would be to add a chunky necklace—something that really stands out. Her top is a blank canvas at this point and needs filling.
