Local Beaches on Most Popular List

The Daily Beast has come out with its list of the nation’s most popular beaches and two Jersey shore spots are among the top 10.

Beaches were ranked based on attendance and the number of people who live there.

First up at number five is Belmar, N.J. Last year about 3 million beach-goers chose this sandy destination, while over 5,000 people live there, according to the Daily Beast.

Ocean City, N.J. takes the number eight spot. This family-friendly beach brought in 3,056,601 people in 2010. Over 14,701 people reside in Ocean City, reports the Daily Beast.

Jacksonville Beach in Florida took top honors with nine million visitors last year -- more than double the number for Ocean City, Maryland, which holds the number two spot on the list.

Other beaches that made the list include the famous Laguna Beach in California, Myrtle Beach in South Carolina, and Daytona Beach in Florida.
