Run for Jake, Raise Money for Good Causes

Run for a good cause at Cheltenham High School.

Get yourself moving this Sunday morning over to the 4th Annual Cheltenham Phys Ed 5K - The Run for Jake.

The run is named for Jake Berkowitz, a Cheltenham High School grad with a passion for running and community service, who lost his battle with cancer in 2005.

Proceeds from the run benefit the Cheltenham High School Physical Education Department and Athletic programs and Back On My Feet, a Philly-based organization that helps the homeless build confidence, strength and self-esteem through running.

The race starts and ends at Elkins Park Middle School at 8149 New Second Street in Elkins Park, Pa.

The main event will be a 5K run along the Tookany Creek Parkway and for those who prefer not to run, there will be a 1-mile casual walk.

You can sign-up online now or on race day from 7-8 a.m. The race will kick off at 8:30 a.m. sharp. The walk will begin once the runners have left the starting line.

Anyone who is unable to attend can still participate by signing up as a “snooze runner” and paying the regular registration fee.

All pre-registered participants will receive a free T-shirt. Awards will be given out to the top three runners in five different age brackets and to the student runner with the most school spirit.

Stick around after the run/walk for the Cheltenham Wellness Fair and a raffle with the chance to win a Fuji road bike and other great prizes.
