Skating Time Has Arrived

Opening Day at the Blue Cross RiverRink

Looking for a cool way to stay in shape this winter?

Well, you're in luck, because the Blue Cross RiverRink at Penn's Landing opened to skating Friday at noon.

It's the 17th year that the Olympic size rink is being frozen on top of a parking lot -- and will stay frozen throughout the whole season thanks to some confusing technology having to do with water and anti-freeze and little tubes keeping it solid.

And this year the folks at the RiverRink gave back, giving $1 for each paid admission to the Hero Scholarship Fund that supports the families of fallen police, firefighters and emergency personnel.

If skating isn't your thing, you'll still find ways to enjoy yourself by heading inside to enjoy the snack bar and game room. Oh, and the heat!

The rink is located on Columbus Boulevard at Market Street and is the city's only outdoor public ice rink. For a full schedule of skating times and other events at the rink, click here
