Poconos Could Be Making a Big Splash

Resort destination considering 5 new indoor water parks

The Poconos could be offering more than just campsites and ski slopes in the near future.

Officials are mulling over proposals to create five new indoor water parks in Pocono Township. The new attractions would join two previously existing indoor water parks in the area: Split Rock Resort in Lake Harmony and Great Wolf Lodge in Tannersville.

If the current proposals go through successfully, Tannersville will be the home of four more indoor water parks in addition to Great Wolf.

Between the proposals and current parks, the Poconos is looking to eventually contain 13 acres of water parks -- perfect for family fun. Proposals are in the midst of getting funding, plans and permission.

Camelback Mountain Resort, no slouch when it comes to Poconos action, has also jumped into the water park pool with a $140 million project. The especially ambitious proposal, waiting for the last go-ahead, would feature a sprawling 100,000-square-foot indoor water park and a hotel.

Three groups in total have notified Pocono Township officials about their indoor water park plans.
