Interested in seeing bodies contorted into unbelievable works of art?
Check out Pilobolus at the Zellerbach Theatre at the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Unviersity City this weekend.
The group, founded as an outsider dance company at Dartmouth in 1971, has quickly become a dominant force mixing athleticism, flexibility and fluid choreography to create stunning exhibits using only the human body.
The show is part of the Dance Celebration Series and will feature up to 100 choreographic works ranging from an Indian tribe scene to a princess in a ballgown.
Pilobolus is best known for performing behind a translucent screen during the 2007 Academy Awards but that's not their only claim to fame. The troup has been featured on 60 Minutes, The Oprah Winfrey Show and the Olympics and has received various awards including an Emmy.
The group most recently made headlines in January when they piled 26 people into a Mini Cooper as part of the EMC Guinness World Record Breaking Tour, beating the previous record of 25.
Now Philly will get a chance to see the record-breaking, award-winning troup in action. Pilobolus will take Annenberg's stage Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
Tickets are available now and range from $38 to $58 unless you attend Sunday's matinee show, which runs about five to ten bucks cheaper.
