Phish Jams Into A.C., Traffic Jams Possible

With thousands expecting to go "Phishing" down the Shore this weekend, authorites tell drivers to expect delays

Atlantic City is ready to jam this weekend as the biggest 30-minute song jamband in the land, Phish, hits up Bader Field for three nights of music.

The concerts will bring Phish fans from around the county to America's Playground but it will also bring an interesting traffic challenge with thousands expected to invade Bader Filed, many by foot.

"Fans can walk to Bader Field from all the major downtown Atlantic City hotel," Phish say on their website.

Atlantic City Police are expecting plenty of fans to hoof it from the casinos to the venue on Albany Avenue (Route 40) and they are trying to ensure safety of walkers.

There will be a single lane restriction outbound on Albany Avenue in order to create a ‘PEDESTRIAN SAFETY ZONE’. This pedestrian safety zone will be put into effect on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11 a.m. until approximately Midnight from the Unit Block of N Albany Avenue to Porter Avenue. The ‘PEDESTRIAN SAFETY ZONE’ is established to widen the public walkway by utilizing the curb lane travelling outbound on Unit North Albany Avenue to Porter Avenue to safely separate the vehicular traffic from the pedestrian traffic, portable barricades are utilized widen the pedestrian walkway and protect the concert attendees from highway traffic. One lane will remain open for outbound vehicle traffic.

Police also plan on closing Albany Avenue each night around 11:30 p.m. to clear all traffic and pedestrains from the site. The closures could take anywhere from 35 to 55 minutes, cops say.

With single-lane traffic and plenty of visitors walking around, people who normally take Route 40 to West End Avenue to go over the Dorset Bridge to go to towns like Margate and Ventnor, or to access parts of Atlantic City should plan other routes to avoid possible slowdowns. To get to Ventnor and Margate try the Margate Bridge and taking the Atlantic Expressway to the end will get visitors into Atlantic City.

Tickets for each Phish show are still on sale for $60 a show or $150 for a full weekend.

Now the trick is what Phish has up their sleeves for the three-day festival, they played "The Gambler" with Kenny Rogers at Bonnaroo last weekend, could an encore happen this weekend?
