More than 2,000 people are participating in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure event in Philadelphia.
The 60-mile, three day journey honors those who have lost their lives to breast cancer. 15 cities are hosting the walk this year. It began at the Willow Grove Mall on Friday morning and will end on Sunday at the Navy Yard.
“This is my first year,” said breast cancer survivor and first time walker Michelle Tribbett. “I’ve very sore and I’m very tired, but I’m going to do it.”
Each walker raised a minimum of $2300 to participate. The money will be donated to breast cancer research.
The Kristian brothers made sure to stand out during the race, with each wearing matching tutus.
“Our mom had breast cancer,” said Kristian Krauker of Edgewater Park.
While the runners were upbeat for most of the event, there was still an underlying seriousness to it all.
“We need to find a cure,” said Gail Fantasia who lost her sister Jan to breast cancer. “We need to continue being warriors against this disease.”
