Hundreds stepped out on Sunday for one of the area's biggest LGBT street festivals in Northern Liberties.  The event capped the week long Equality Forum 2011 summit.

The SundayOUT! event began at noon at the Piazza, at North 2nd Street and Germantown Avenue.

Music, food, and artisans were on hand for an afternoon-long celebration.

Pop/dance talent KID AKIMBO and D.C. singer/songwriter Jonathan Bascope performed.

Jack Slivinski thought he was doing some good by taking shirtless photos for a charity calendar. But now it looks like "Mr Philly" has been burned and taken off his highly-trained gig and placed at a much quieter company. Commissioner Lloyd Ayers explains that he didn't like the photos and was upset that Slivinski didn't ask for his permission.

While the event was mostly fun and games, the many people who attended had a serious message.

"It's totally discriminatory how gays are treated and not given the same rights as straight couples," said Malcolm Samar of Old City.

Famed firefighter and Mr. Philly Jack Slivinski was also on hand, working in one of the kitchens. Slivinski's decision to pose shirtless for a special firefighter's calendar caused plenty of controversy.

Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers wanted his picture pulled and reassigned Jack from Heavy Rescue 1 to Engine 54, a spot where firefighters are typically sent as punishment.

During the festival, a petition was passed around to help Jack get his old assignment back.

"We almost have about 1,000 signatures and they're counting and climbing," said Katherine Kostreva, a calendar publisher.

"They will go to the mayor's office and the city commissioners."

They plan to deliver the petition to the mayor's office tomorrow.
