NBC10 Softball Faces Firefighters to Benefit a Great Cause

Proceeds benefit the Hero Scholarship Fund of Delaware County

In light of the recent heat wave, evidence of summer’s arrival is not hard to find. So we’re taking advantage of this nice weather with a friendly game of softball for a great cause.

It’s the 3rd Annual Hero’s Scholarship Fund Softball Game, taking place Saturday, June 11 at the Glen Mills School baseball field at 185 Glen Mills Road in Glen Mills, Pa.

The NBC10 Fighting Peacocks will try to make it three-straight wins against the Garretford-Drexel Hill Fire Department.

"The game is for a great cause but that doesn't mean both teams won't be giving it their all," said Peacocks coach Dan Stamm. "Last year we went extra innings, this year we plan on extinguishing the guys over at Drexel Hill with ease."

Proceeds from the event go benefit the Hero Scholarship Fund of Delaware County.

The Hero Scholarship was founded in 1977 to provide educational scholarship money to the children of police, firefighters and emergency personnel who die in service to their community. This year, we hope to raise $5,000, but cannot achieve this goal without your help!

The first pitch will be at 2 p.m. Tickets are just $10 at the gate or can be purchased in advance at the Drexel Hill firehouse. It's a family-friendly event with free tickets for children under 5.

This year’s event will include a 50/50 raffle, a silent auction and everyone in attendance will have a chance to win great door prizes including items from local sports teams and restaurants.

Everyone gets a hot dog, soda and chips with admission plus there will be food for sale and some great surprises.

Our own meteorologist Dave Warren will be playing and Eagles defensive end Darryl Tapp is set to add some more power to the Peacocks this year.

Even if you can't make it out to the game on Saturday you can still make a donation to the Hero's Fund by clicking here.

Player appearances are subject to change. The rain date is Sunday, June 12 at 2 p.m.
