Memorial Day Festival in Wildwoods to Honor Military Families

First-ever 'Celebration of Heroes' weekend beach festival will salute America’s Military Servicemen, Women & Families

Memorial Day Weekend in the Wildwoods is getting a huge boost in 2012.

The city known for its boardwalk, named the Best in America by Family Vacation Critic back in February, will play host to the first annual Celebration of Heroes, a three-day festival featuring live music, celebrity entertainment, food and music festivals and much more. The highlight will certainly be a USO-style variety show and concert at the Wildwoods Convention Center on Sunday, May 27. The event will be emceed by entertainer Joe Piscopo and is likely to include some major musical talent (still yet to be determined).

Officially announced today in a press conference at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, the entire event is a tribute to America’s military servicemen, women, veterans and first-responders and their families.

“This new family-friendly festival, for the military and general public, will ensure that Memorial Day Weekend in the Wildwoods is unforgettable in every sense of the word, and will attract visitors to the Wildwoods Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall,” said John Siciliano, Executive Director of the Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority (GWTIDA).

Over 250,000 families of active duty servicemen, women, veterans, first-responders and their families will be invited to participate in the weekend’s activities, which will include:

  • Military Parade
  • Family Beach Events (clinics, demos, soccer, softball, obstacle courses & more)
  • Taste of Wildwoods Food & Music Festival: a sampling of world cuisine from 75-100 local restaurants and vendors
  • Live music from favorite shore bands from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s
  • Fireworks
  • Much more

The festival is being produced by Diane McGraw, President of McGraw Productions and wife of the late Tug McGraw, the flamboyant Major League Pitcher and member of the 1969 Mets and 1980 Phillies World Series teams.

NBC10 is proud to be the official TV partner of the event, along with WHYY and NJTV. For more detailed event information and a schedule of events, visit www.WildwoodsNJ.com/heroes
