Jill Scott Comes Home, Gives Back

Local singer Jill Scott has done a lot for Philly and its kids thanks to some generous donors.

Scott will be opening up for R & B legend Maxwell Saturday night at the Wachovia Center.

After her performance, Comcast-Spectacor and Live Nation will be handing over a giant check to the Grammy-Award winner in support of her charity, the Camp Jill Scott youth program.

The program is among several charities supported by the popular soul and R & B artist, who also acts and writes poetry on the side.

Located in Bensalem, Pa. at Cherokee Day Camp, the program costs nothing for kids who stay at the 10-acre spread for a week. The lucky campers get to experience the arts while learning about the environment, health and even personal money management.

Campers and Junior Counselors will be the beneficiaries of the donation, which will pay for their school supplies and backpacks.

The companies’ donation will follow the 7 p.m. performance of Scott, a former Temple student and North Philly native.
