Go Skateboarding in Easton

Easton has a day of events planned

Bet you didn’t know Monday is Go Skateboarding Day. Well, it is, and Easton has some fun events to celebrate.

It’s their first annual Easton Skaters Stay off the Street Club BMX & Skateboarding Event.

From 1 to 3:45 p.m. skaters and bikers can go to the downtown Easton Quadrants for some open freestyle time and to register for the competition.

That's right while many cities are discouraging skaters, Easton, Pa. is welcoming them.

The skateboarding and BMX competition begins at 4:40 and there are three divisions to compete in -- beginner, intermediate and advanced. There will be a first place prize for all divisions.

Before the competition, at 4 p.m. there will be a press conference where supporters will discuss plans to build a skate and bike park in Easton. The park will be dedicated to Robert Mitchell, a boy who died at age 13 when he was hit by a city bus while riding his new bike.

Easton isn't the only town welcoming skaters. Other Go Skateboarding Day events are being held in Downingtown, Pa. and Jackson, N.J.

So skaters and bikers come out and enjoy a safe place to board and bike, as well as food and games.
