Believe it or not, Saturday is World Sword Swallowers Day. Yes, that’s right, there is such a thing and it’s Feb. 27.
World Sword Swallowers Day was established “to raise awareness of the medical contributions sword swallowers have made to the fields of medicine and science, to honor veteran performers, to raise funds for esophageal cancer research and the Injured Sword Swallower’s Relief Fund and to correct myths by putting on sword swallowing demonstrations for the public and media around the world,” sword swallower Dan Meyer said in a statement.
And in an attempt to break the world record, sword swallower Red Stuart will open wide and try to swallow 52 swords at one time at Ripley’s Believe It or Not’s Odditorium in Atlantic City. The current recorder, held by "The Space Cowboy" a.k.a. Chayne Hulttren, is 18 swords.
But over 100 feet of steel isn’t the only item that Stewart will attempt to swallow.
Before he tries to break the world record, he’ll be swallowing many things including coat hangers and lightsabers, according to Chris Connelly, an Odditorium employee.
The show will begin at 1:30 with the grand finale – the shattering of the world record – at 2:27 p.m.
You can watch Stewart’s death-defying act for free.
