11/14-11/15: Soul, Singers and Stylists

Jim Henson Art: Come see the works of Jim Henson, the creative artist, puppeteer, film director and producer. From now through November 29, Henson’s Fantastic World will be on display at the James A. Michener Art Museum. You may need to travel a bit out of the city for this one, but we guarantee it’ll be worth it. Take a rare peek into the imagination of the legendary Henson who is best known as the creator of Kermit the Frog, Big Bird and several other beloved characters we all grew up seeing on television. To see storybooks, drawings, cartoons and more, head into Doylestown this Saturday or Sunday afternoon. James A. Michener Art Museum, 138 Pine Street, Doylestown, Pa. 18901, $5-10, 12 p.m.

Hair Show: You’ve seen the above-the-top hair shows featured in Chris Rock’s Good Hair, now see Philly’s own rendition of a hair show featuring the top stylists in our area. Hope Cuts’ SophistiCats - Upright, Uptown, Updos will feature seven different categories and award the top stylists with prizes. See your stylist as well as many others duke it out in cut, color and styling Saturday night at The Phoenix. Proceeds from this event will benefit the City of Hope, the leading research and treatment center for caner, diabetes, and other life-threatening diseases. Brand New: See alternative rock bands Brand New, Thrice and Crime in Stereo this Saturday night at the Electric Factory. Hailing from New York, Brand New formed almost a decade ago and have released hits such as “Jesus Christ” and “At the Bottom.” Crime in Stereo can be best described as a punk band who are also from New York. Thrice has experimented with alternative rock, experimental rock, post-hardcore and melodic rock. Their sixth album was just released in August. Come see all three bands for less than $30. Calendar Party: Just in time for the holidays, pick up the latest 2010 calendar of the hottest WMMR Preston and Steve listeners. The complete calendar lineup will be at The Roxxy this Saturday night to take pictures as well as give autographs. That night, head home with your very own calendar to hang in the office (but maybe your home would be more appropriate). Sip on $2 Bud Light specials and party all night long. Dionne Warwick: See the legendary R&B singer Dionne Warwick live this Sunday night at the Keswick Theatre. The five-time Grammy award winner will perform an array of her hit songs. Sing along to favorites such as “Walk On By,” “I’ll Never Love This Way Again” and “I Say a Little Prayer.” Bring your family out to see this Jersey native sing, dance and put on a great show.
