In The Ad Age

Take a nostalgic look at campaigns of the past

While you might not remember the shows you watched back in the 80s, no true generation x-er can look at the image of a frying egg without thinking, "That’s my brain on drugs!"

A current exhibit at the Art Institute showcases the Ad Council’s public service announcements in print, outdoor and TV ads from the past 65 years. Some of the iconic campaigns on display include Rosie the Rivoter, Smokey Bear’s wildfire prevention, McGruff the Crime Dog’s fight against crime, “Friends Don’t Let Friends Drive Drunk” and the never-forgettable crying Indian against pollution. The exhibit runs until April 3.
