Ridiculous Hats, Horses and More

Forget the slow crawl to the shore this Memorial Day weekend. Put on a ridiculous hat and go watch the Devon Horse Show. The oldest horse show in America, the Devon Horse Show embodies all the class of the Main Line and excitement of horse jumping.

Spanning from Thursday, May 21 to Saturday, May 30, each day offers a plethora of events and different types of equestrian disciplines. The two main rings at the Devon Horse Show, the Dixon Oval and the Gold Ring, host almost all of the events and contests including the Platinum Performance/USEF Show Jumping Talent search, the Junior Jumper Challenge, a Parent and Child horse modeling event, plus the $100,000 Grand Prix and performance by Charro Gerardo “Jerry” Diaz.

Besides the jumping, another staple of the Devon Horse Show is the County Fair that happens parallel to the events every year. Vendors selling everything from food, to custom leather goods, to tea and even something called “The Romantic Room” will be on hand as well as a Ferris Wheel and other fair-type rides for kids.

And if all of this isn't tempting enough, all of the money raised at the County Fair goes to support the Bryn Mawr Hospital, which has received over $13 million from the Devon Horse Show since 1972.

The gates will open at 8 a.m. and remain open until 10 p.m. General admission tickets can be bought the day of the show and will run $7 for adults, $12 for children under 12, and $5 for seniors over 65.

Spectators can also buy grandstand tickets for each night. Prices vary from $11 - $45 but discounts are offered for groups, seniors, children and active military personal.
